GM bets big on Indian operations


Amidst a slump in sales in sales in its home market Gm is looking at emerging markets to help it continue to remain as the number one car Manufacturer[so far this strategy seems to be paying of well,with toyota not yet able to match GM in terms of sales due to GM's rise in the emerging markets].

GM now is betting big on its Indian operations and plans to hire additional staff which would result in a Total strength of 2000 employees at its Technical center in Bangalore alone.In addition ,GM is also planning to set up an engine and transmission factory in India,which would not only cater to the Indian markets but also be used for exports.GM plans to raise its purchases from India more than threefold to $1 billion annually by 2010.

GM plan to launch a few more small cars in India after all this is where all the action takes place in the Indian market.For the premium Segment GM says it is looking at the Cadillac and the Hummer.
