A day after announcing the tie-up with Japan's Isuzu Motors for manufacturing buses, Swaraj Mazda on Tuesday said it will also launch trucks next year.
"Definitely, we will come out with our trucks, but at the moment we will be focusing on chassis for bus applications for upper end segment," said Swaraj Mazda Managing Director Yash Mahajan
In the first phase, the company would lay emphasis on ultra-luxury buses, while in second phase, it would manufacture economy class buses. In the third phase, it would also make ordinary buses,
Japanese automobile giant Isuzu in partnership with Swaraj Mazda has decided to pump in Rs 300 crore for setting up two manufacturing plants in Punjab.
"One will be for production of Isuzu vehicles with capacity of 12,000 per annum and the second plant will manufacture bus bodies having a capacity of 7,000 units per annum,"Under this arrangement, Isuzu would supply engine and transmission for this project while 45 per cent of the components would be locally sourced.
