Inside Source got a chance to test drive the next generation Honda Jazz[shares platform with the Honda city] and following are some of the points they picked up.
For the new platform the wheelbase has increased to 2500mm from the existing 2450mm this has translated into even better interior space [which will benefit both the sedan as well as the hatch] so much so that they claim it makes the car feel as roomy as the Honda civic and that is some achievement, not that anybody was complaining about interior space now but this increase would make things even better.Another thing they say is that quality of plastics has further gone up meaning competitors in India would need some taking to be even of comparable levels.Ride and handling too would be much better for the new platform and honda has been extensively working on this front[this was one area of complain really against this particular platform].
But the best part according to them is the 1.5 i-VTEC engine, which is fast and truly Honda in nature in everything including Fuel-economy.What remains to be seen is what happens to the i-dsi engines, because there is talk of replacing them and after all the i-VTEC is only for top of the range in countries like India, its the other engine option which we are more interested in.
