New Mahindra Scorpio to be cheaper than its predecessor,Maruti to launch new diesel SUV

Economic times came up with an article regarding SUV launches in the near future in India and some important points from that article,

Mahindra Scorpio eagle[the next generation of the scorpio] is going to be cheaper than the existing model[hopefully this does not mean the product quality too heads downwards].Anyways Mahindra is already working on another all terrain vehicle to cater to the rural market which would be their cheapest vehicle yet.Mahindra are also working on an all new platform for the Bolero. There is the ingenio MUV as well expected in 2008.

Tata plan to launch the safari 2.2L dicor engine with spruced up interiors compared to the existing safari.[Changes expected in the new 2.2L Dicor Tata safari are-A brand new instrument cluster with sporty dials, door pads and a neat centre console. The overall dimensions would remain the same but bigger 16-inch wheels are expected].Tata would do well to remember that a significant price rise could be detrimental especially considering that the all new Scorpio eagle is expected to be even cheaper than the existing scorpio.Tata also plans to launch the all new Sumo[based on the new TL platform].

Maruti is working on introducing a new suv with both a 1.3L petrol engine option and more importantly having a diesel engine option as well[something which they have been so far unsuccessful with the Gypsy].This SUV in all probability is the all new Jimny. There is talk also with regards to bringing in an all new Versa as well.ET have even given a price quote of RS. 4.5-5.5 lakhs.

ICML to plan a new SUV derived from the existing model[rhino] which would have even better ground clearance and a common rail engine.

Considering the love for Suv's in India C segment cars watch out,the suv's may just take over the market especially if they are available at the same price or even cheaper than the price of a sedan.
