Has our Market Matured enough to accept Pick-ups.

The Nissan-Ashok Leyland JV in India means Nissan would be getting its LCV range into our markets. This means Nissan has the option of getting its Pick-up's into India as well. Now though they are known as commercial vehicles don't be fooled by that tag,the pick-ups actually can give a luxury car a run for its money. What that also means is that in terms of pricing too they are right up there. So is there a market for these luxury Pick-ups in our country.

Just like the rest of the world we too want to do what the americans do but somehow the best selling vehicle in the US has not caught up in our markets. For starters the pick-ups are great vehicles for the outdoors man,and traditionally Indians have not really be known to be great in that field. With cheap labour and transportation costs in India, the need for that extra storage space for pick-ups has not been felt.Pick-ups have got themselves a transporters vehicle tag in India and that is not going to change very soon. When we travel we are at our generous best so that means even your next door neighbor could figure in the list of co-travellers,pickups dont have space for them and what is the use of a big vehicle if you cannot accommodate more passengers than a regular car.Security is another issue with an open boot it is literally an open invitation for anybody to steal your cargo.

Overcome all these problems and you have an Suv instead.
