Volvo trucks hits a rough patch

Volvo trucks North america has seen a 64 percent decrease in deliveries of new trucks so far this year.

In all, 7,903 trucks had been delivered to dealers and customers through July, down from 21,734 trucks during the first seven months of 2006.

Volvo officials said in February they expected to see U.S. truck sales decline as much as 45 percent during the first half of the year. Dealers and trucking companies that bought an unusually high number of trucks last year to avoid vehicles with higher emissions standards that went into effect January 1. Trucks that meet the new standard are more expensive than trucks that do not.
