Its not only in america where top american bosses at Toyota are being wooed over by rivals. It happens in India too.Toyota India's deputy MD[the highest ranked Indian in charge] Mr.K.K. Swamy has called its quits and in all probability is moving over to rival VW.
Why VW,well VW has an aggresive plan to overtake Toyota by 2015 for which it is imperative that VW strikes gold in developing markets like India.Toyota on the other hand have taken a safety first attitude and are playing it more like a Geoffery Boycott[cricketer] hundred. In a little more than ten years in the Indian market toyota has been able to sell only two cars in the mainstream segment. Not that the other two are selling like hotcakes when compared to its nearest rivals.
The Times of India attributes this departure to serious differences in opinion between Swamy and top bosses at Toyota and a reluctance to implement his ideas, something which is very very unlike Toyota.Perhaps he was a bit too media savvy for Toyota's liking.
Toyota have now however decide to split its indian operations into two one handling manufacturing[Bangalore based] and the other handling marketing sales, marketing and distribution[gurgaon based].It remains to be seen who will head these two operations.Though for the time being Times of India says a top Mahindra man is being approached for the seat left vacant by MR.K.K.Swamy.
Toyota's loss may very well be VW"s gain.
