Volvo to launch 6 new models

Volvo Car India is planning to launch six new models in the Indian market in phases. The company would initiate talks with about 80 candidates interested in Volvo dealerships across eight cities in the country.

Paul de Voijs, the managing director of Volvo Car India said that the models to be launched include the V50 and V70 station wagons, the 3-door coupe C30 , XC60, XC70 and the C70 (2-door coupe convertible). Of these XC60 and C70 are likely to be launched soon. The company hopes to sell 500 cars in the current year.

Volvo, which has three dealerships in Chandigarh, Delhi and Mumbai, is planning to open up more showrooms in the country in cities like Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Jaipur, Hyderabad, Kochi, Kolkata and Jaipur, he added. A new dealership would need to spend about Rs 80 lakh to equip the showroom and service centre.Volvo would prefer dealership owners to have their own land, ideally in prime locations.

By 2009, Volvo would have 14 dealerships, he added. “For the moment we bring them (Volvo cars) as CBUs and after at least one year of experience, we will make up our minds on whether we need to do assembly here or not,” he added.
