Just days after the launch of the new safari, tata have launched the Sumo Victa Turbo DI.This after just a day after reports in a newspaper that the sumo is going to be discontinued for the newer generation MUV[all new Tata Sumo code named phoenix].
This DI range comes with a 3L turbo charged DI engine:
Tech specs:
2956 cc Diesel DI Turbo Charged,
70 PS (51.5 Kw) @ 3000 rpm
223Nm @1600 - 2200 rpm
Tata claim a fuel efficiency of 15kmpl.The vehicle is available in four variants and the pricing is between 5-6 lakhs[ex-showroom]
Yes a new lease of life indeed for the sumo but the sumo range seems a bit confusing to me right now with Tata having a Victa and a Victa DI range right now with a whole range of engine configurations[there is the spacio range too] at around the same price.
Tata have made it clear with the indica that their newer generation and older generation cars would co-exist with each other now I get a feeling Tata is going to follow this strategy across its entire line-up of vehicles, hopefully not and this is just an intermediate step to boost sales till the new products arrive.
