Why Pressgate may actually be a good thing for Toyota

Why do you buy a Toyota, cause even if an asteroid destroys everything else you expect your toyota to continue running without much fuss even ,that is why even though you know they are boring to drive and not exactly stunner's to look at you continue to buy a toyota.

But I feel toyota was just moving away from this and where more or less trying to tread a dangerous path neither here nor there wanting to satisfy the other needs but forgetting what their roots where,so from fuel efficient cars they moved on towards the pickups trucks, other manufacturers like honda gained in terms of cars.Toyota unknowingly/knowingly has been over-concentrating on the American markets which is coming at the cost of other markets, toyota new model introduction too seems to be suffering of late.Even the prius is relying on discounts so what's with the hybrid fascination at toyota while every other manufacturer is talking about diesel[only recently is toyota talking to isuzu with regards to diesel engines].Newer generation models are getting more and more expensive but somehow quality seems to be compromised they don't seem like they can survive a flashflood even.Would all these things be associated with the toyota of old.Somewhere down the line their way of functioning is transforming from a japanese way which we all adore to a more american way.

Now James Press was a great guy but toyota is really not about an individual its much much more than that.Toyota should never be over-reliant on individuals, one day or the other Press had to go and since he was the only American on board he was prime target for poachers plus not all managers are japanese[loyal].Plus when you are number one[alright almost] expect people to look upto you so expect more such moves in the future, toyota can counter this by having an effective grooming process where even if one manager leaves another can take his postion the very next minute.

But Toyota needs to get back to its roots at the earliest,we want cars from toyota to be so reliant that if they break-down toyota pays its customers.Toyota needs to work overtime with regards to their diesel's since they seem a bit behind in terms of the traditional toyota reliability.

The biggest lesson for toyota is if a person like Press having worked at toyota for more than 20 years could switch camps their customers too could switch camps before toyota knows.
