Land Rover's sole India distributor, Navnit Motors is planning to get Land Rover's compact SUV, the LR2. Expected to be priced at around Rs 35-lakh ex-showroom, the LR2 will be the cheapest of the Land Rover variants here. The LR2 plays an important role in Land Rover's portfolio, as it's the company's most fuel-efficient model.
The same model that helped Land Rover clock the best ever sales during the year so far. Currently, Land Rover sales in India are minuscule but it's gradually increasing. Its distributor expects to double the annual volume to over 60 units this year as he is looking to add a second outlet. The LR-2 when it joins the existing models, may boost Land Rover's sales here as the market for compact SUVs like Honda's CR-V and Suzuki's Vitara is growing in India.
Volvo cars, another Ford group company is also learnt to be helping land rover establish itself in the Indian market.
