Volkswagen turns its focus to India

So far VW has been concentrating only on China but now they know they cannot aford to leave the Indian market behinda considering they plan to be the world's largest automobile manufacturer by 2015 and overtake Toyota even.

VW has good a good hold in the Indian market in the form of the Skoda brand which has suprisingly managed to associate itself with a premium brand tag.Now VW plan to enter the market on their own and the Passat was their first serious step.

For the time being the place from where they plan an onslaught in the Indian Market is the existing Skoda plant at Aurangabad. So the Aurangabad plant will churn out skoda, audi as well as VW vehicles.VW group say this is possible because all vehicles within the group share the same platform.VW says this strategy helps in bringing down costs and increasing profitability.

A VW plant is also coming up in Pune which would roll out the Polo by 2009,a hatch[most likely based on the Up! concept] by 2010 and also possibly the jetta. This plant in Pune could also again be used for skoda models as well.
