Time to retire your old cars

Driving your dads[or maybe granddads] good old fiat/maruti 800 on Delhi roads may just not be possible. The delhi government is all set to ban cars older than 15 years old from plying on the streets of Delhi unless they pass certain tests and obtain a No Objection Certificate.

Now this system is open to abuse and a lot of under the table deals can be expected. However its purpose is to get rid of the so called polluting old cars from the roads.I doubt whether this will help in reducing the traffic on the roads since most of these owners would shift to newer cars and car manufacturers are already sniffing an opportunity and working on appropriate schemes for owners of such cars.

Already this rule has been implemented for commercial vehicles and over 1.11 lakh trucks have had their registrations cancelled.Hopefully other states too pick up from delhi and we develop a better system of disposing off old vehicles.
